The Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister M.S. Gill, wants the name of the Indian capital changed to Dilli, saying the word is more close to the people's heart.
Why not I say, we already changed Bombay to Mumbai, Madras to Chennai, Calcutta to Kolkata, and Bangalore to Bengaluru. So, why should Delhi be left behind in the name changing process.
The sports in the country are so well taken care of that the Sports minister has got to find some work, so he has taken up this issue. Kudos to him on bringing up such a topic which will be debated for a long time while other important issues will take a back seat.
I don't know what is achieved by renaming places except for utter confusion. Staying in Mumbai you can find every place named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from airport to railway station to museum to roads. Although he was a great leader, naming everything after him just says that there are not many others whose name can be used, which is not at all the case with the rich history that Maharashtra has.
This name game will continue forever until politicians learn to do their jobs and put the country on the path of prosperity.
A good quote:
"The only job you can start at the top is digging a hole"
